April Meeting | Beer x Cheese

Last week we gathered at the Rochester Brainery to talk about the incredible food marriage of beer and cheese. We partnered with The Little Bleu Cheese shop and brought to the table some excellent flavors. We talked and tasted our way through five pairings. Beginning on the lighter end with a wit and a coriander cheddar–which melds well with the coriander typical of a wit–we moved to stronger flavors finishing with a scotch ale and smokey blue–which, by the way, was out. of. this. world.

Beer and cheese are natural friends and the tastes that we enjoyed displayed that perfectly. Each product is elevated by the presence of the other and flavors that might be missed are instead made more bold. There was a lavender honey goat cheese paired with a light saison, the sweetness of the goat cheese blended with the slight peppery, fruity flavors of the saison, creating an ahhmazing match. Several ladies said that blue cheese was not usually their first pick, but when paired with an IPA or scotch ale, the were completely surprised by how much the loved them.

We tried to challenge our taste buds without throwing anyone overboard. The night was a total success not to mention the fact that we got to experience some flavors that were un.real. I foresee many more of these types of tastings on the horizon.

Oh, and if you want to pick up some of these cheeses or beers, then you’d better hit up The Little bleu Cheese Shop in the South Wedge and AJ’s Beer Warehouse.

With this lovely spring weather beginning to creep into upstate New York, I’m itching for some summer suds. West coast IPAs and easy sipping wits, we’re coming atchya. We’re almost to patio season and porch sits. Grab a cold one and hit the park. I’ll see you all in May.

Cheers!
